The types and colors are designed using metallic salts during manufacturing. Each piece of real material is hand-cut and wrapped around each individual piece. The pieces are then welded by hand to create one-of-a-kind designs. As part of the finishing process, oil is added to the outside of the design to protect the material from erosion. The first lampshade that came in was unfortunately broken— It wasnt packaged very well, so I wasnt entirely surprised — but I sent in a report and they immediately sent out a replacement which was in one piece! It is a bit wobbly when placed on a thick carpet, so if you plan to have it sitting out in the open, rhats something to be aware of. I have it behind my couch and it has been safe there.
