I love this lamp. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't have a dimmer feature, which I needed because I'm using this in my living room as an accent light. However, for $14 I bought a full-range dimmer plug from [...] that converts any lamp into a full-range dimmer lamp. So, with the addition of that gadget, this lamp is now perfect. It gives off a nice warm orangey glow because the light is coming through the shells. It really is a perfect accent to my living room color scheme.I orininally bought this floor lamp and the matching end table lamp, however when I put the table lamp on the table, the shade is much lower than the shade on this floor lamp. I'm a perfectionist and like things symmetrical. So I bought a second floor lamp and now have a floor lamp on either side of my couch. Luckily the floor lamp has a narrow enough base that it could go behind my end table and still is far enough away from the wall."..."  Read more

I really liked the concept of this lamp. I takes good planning to place this lamp in a place that will highlight its design and illumination. The lamp lights up my living room very well. Fantastic "candle" design. Despite the well packaging,the lamp glass covers (icicles) are very delicate, be careful handling them. You get an extra lamp, and icicle. It is not mentioned in the description, but the lamp has a small floor sliding switch that lets you dim the 3 halogen lamps from maximum power to darkness. Dimming is expected for halogen lamps. Its very cool when creating a laid-back atmosphere. The switch has an orange LED to make it easier to find it the dark. Though, it takes some time getting used to the floor switch. The assembly wasn't as easy as i would have hoped, but its worth the wait (Hence 4 stars). Just have patience. The hardest part is to get the electrical cables inside the tubes (which run the entire height of each tube). Do not assemble (screw in) the tubes together before you insert the cables and plug to the lamp sockets. Its easier this way. Assembly make take some ingenuity (Like using a hook+rope to insert the electrical cables in the tubes...your welcome). The construction is solid and of good quality. I think is very worth the price and the style this lamp adds to my living room. I consider it as art and not just as a lamp. I would definitely recommend it, but not too much as I wouldn't want everyone to have the same lamp as me. ;-)"..."  Read more

This is the eighth Robert Abbey lamp I've bought, counting those R.A. manufactures under the Crate & Barrel brand name. I'm a fan. Here's why. Flexible positioning: I looked a long time for a dark-toned extension-armed pharmacy lamp. This one offers the most features. The height adjusts up and dow; the jointed arm extends a long way; the head can rotate up and down (not true of most other lamps, including the House of Troy one); the shade can be rotated from side to side (though I wouldn't want to change that too often, for fear of loosening the connection of shade to socket). Amount of light: Takes up to a 100 watt bulb (many pharmacy lamps only go to 60w). Sturdy full-range dimmer (most pharmacy lamps have a high-low switch, at best). Inside of shade is shiny silver and reflects light fabulously well, so that I rarely turn the lamp to full brightness even for reading. Quality of construction: Like other Robert Abbey lamps, this is built like a tank. Very heavy -- probably close to 20 pounds. Everything has a well-finished, quality feel. I saw the House of Troy adjustable pharmacy lamp in person, and its switch feels cheap and fragile; this one is solid and beautiful (a pretty ball). I expect this lamp to look good and perform well for decades. Appearance: Very nice; slightly old-fashioned vibe because of the reeding on the bottom part of the vertical column and the molded circle-in-square shape of the base. "Dark natural brass" color is a non-shiny brown -- closer to bronze than to polished brass. I like this lamp so much that I'm probably going to buy another in the "dark antique nickel" finish for a different room."..."  Read more

lamp has beautiful finish and a solid feel all around. the body is nominally brass, but i couldn't verify that all parts were brass. There is a non-brass weighting in the base and inside the main body (tube), but all the parts that matter, like the finish, fasteners, switch, harp, cord, are great quality. I didn't care for the appearance of the shade but that's an easy fix; the cord is longer than usually comes wiht a floor lamp, which was an added bonus; the pictures on line are true to the color ("oil rubbed bronze") and design of the actual item[...] when setting up, if the top (extensible) tube seems a bit loose, you can tighten the concentric collar in addition to tightening the adjustment knob; the light is a bit short for a floor lamp, which was what i needed (it is a reading lamp for me), but be sure this height matches your needs; there are similar lamps by the same maker which are taller, if you need the height; I would definitely order this item again and even considered getting a second one after i set up the first because i liked it so much; i did cross-compare this with many other lamps on line and in retail locations and chose this for its simplicity, the nice finish (based on what i saw in the photos), the unobtrusive color which makes it blend into many room decors, relatively compact size (i.e., small shade), and adjustable height."..."  Read more
