My damaged awning needed to be replaced and I wanted to replace it with something more modernistic. After an exhaustive search, I chose this Advaning polycarbonate clear-top awning for many reasons: 1) I liked that it can hold up to 550-lbs of snow, since we get a lot of snow here. 2) The clear top is awesome because when the floodlight is on at night, I can clearly see the lock to unlock my door (versus my old awning that had a solid top, thus blocking all the light) 3) The aesthetics is amazing - looks 1,000 times better than my old one (see picture of old and new awning side-by-side below), 4) The curved lip at the end is super handy because it forces rain to either side. My old awning went straight down, meaning I had to walk through a waterfall every time it rained. 5) decorative lag bolt covers were included to give it that finishing touch. After we got the frame put together, we took out the fabric cover - and it was about 4 times too small! These were much larger in real life than I was expecting but seemed the right size once installed. They came with decent instructions but pictures only so takes a little to figure out. They came with rubber stripes to put between pieces but they dont make a tight seal so I bought 12 backer strips to add between the frame and plexiglass for a tight seal. I absolutely love this awning. It’s exactly what I was looking for. It is very well priced and looks very pretty. Sorry for the delayed review, but I did need to hire someone to install it. The assembly and install were a little challenging, even for a master electrician. It wasn't the level of difficulty but rather very vague instructions and more than one incorrect picture. However, we prevailed. Warning: DO NOT remove the tape and zip ties from the arms of the hardware. They are spring-loaded and should not be released until the awning has been hung. Otherwise, it'll be like trying to put a cat in a bucket of water. (we were smart about this) To assemble, have a helper on standby to pull the awning through the roller channel while someone else pushes it. A kid can help with this part. One person can assemble the main hardware. To install the brackets to the home, one person is fine as long as they have the correct drill bits and measure correctly. The brackets are great quality; however, they may not sit flush and level to the wall. We placed 2x2 blocks of wood behind each bracket to fill the empty space and make the install strong and level. To install the awning, you'll want a strong teen or adult to assist. They will need to hold one side of the awning and the hardware while standing on a ladder, as both people insert the hardware into the brackets on the structure.. Anonymous. Fri Aug 28 2026
