it is a nice door that you can open and close. we had a 42” opening and my clever husband put a2x4 width wise and then used plastic ties to secure it tight. it works well. when the other kids come over, we asked them to just be careful because there is a reinforce piece so it will lock. Just a remind to step over as they unlock and then lock it back again. baby doesn’t even come near it but sure did want to see the stairs. i recommend this gate,. Lk. Over this gate is pretty great. I just strongly dislike that the retractable part requires you to operate the button and usually makes you open the gate all the way, click the button, and then bring it all the way to the hooks to close. I’d like it to just freely move open and closed without the lock on it. However my dog never pushes on it and it probably is there for kids or naughty pups that would push on the screen. I just don’t like that I don’t have the option to leave it unlocked. Other than that small snag the installation was super easy!! Also it’s a good size and holds my 70 pound dog in no problem. I have it elevated to budget for the baseboard and bought it to stop the dog from running down the stairs to the door and escaping.
