This is likely not what many people are using this skate for, but were doing it to help socialize our wonderful new dog with my two cats, one of them is not very dog savvy. When we tried to do this with a normal baby gate, she kept trying to launch herself over it so of course, he wanted to chase her. This was the most affordable option that I could find for something floor to ceiling that would allow them to become more familiar without the potential danger that an unexpected interaction could have caused. I do love the design of this gate. It’s so tall that my kitties can’t go over, around, through, or under. I even like the way it opens to let me go through, without having to negotiate a bottom rail to trip on. It locks securely and was easily assembled and carefully packed. It’s attractive and exceptionally useful. My only concerns: My doorway was not true. It apparently is a few millimeters wider near the top than bottom, so the center doesn’t meet the same way in the top as bottom. This is not the fault of the gate, so I did not deduct a star. My other concern is that there’s a lot of plastic parts. I wish all the components were made of metal. This is great. I was looking for a permanent solution to keep the dog from the front door and a way to separate the dogs from my niece when she visits. This is perfect fix. This is a sturdy barrier, that will help contain your pups in the cargo compartment of your SUV. It is easily assembled, and is pretty quiet during travel. Be sure to measure your cargo compartment to ensure proper sizing. I am convinced a determined dog can get through almost any barrier, but at least this one provides a solid deterrant for pups that are casually considering becoming co-pilots. The main issue with this, and most barriers, is that when assembled at the proper height (our cargo area height is 41”) there is a large (16” in our case) open space at the bottom of the barrier that could easily allow a mid-sized dog to get under the barrier. So if you have a smaller dog, you’ll have to come up with a way to block off that bottom gap to ensure your pup stays where you intend for it to stay. I installed it without drilling—just tightened the knobs, and it held strong against my 50-lb Lab’s zoomies. The double-lock latch is genius: nobreaksm carrying groceries. READ ME! I was a little stumped by the assembly of this gate, but once I figured it out (with NO help to the included instructions or video), I really do like it. Upon receipt when you unscrew the two main pieces of the gate, keep an eye out for 4 small square nuts that may fall out of the grooves. After you determine the size needed, these nuts are essential to hold the two gate pieces together. The video and instructions make it seem like you just simply fasten the screws into the grooves on top and bottom. Well, you do, but if you screw only into the grooves - without the square nuts - there is nothing to catch the screws, and thus, you will be unsuccessful. If you are luckier than me, and your nuts don't fall out of the grooves and go missing for a few days, you need to know that the nuts can be moved back and forth inside the grooves depending on the size you want. Use these nuts to secure your screws, and you'll be golden! I have two small dogs (up to 9 pounds each), and I chose this gate because it is adjustable to any size you wish, and it has feet (rather than needing to be secured to a wall). The feet can be placed along the bottom at any desired location (or you can opt not to use them at all). I chose to screw them in the bottom (but you don't need to) because it gave my gate added stability, and seeing how I plan to move the gate to other locations, this way I don't have to worry about the legs falling off during the moves. The feet have rubber pads at the bottom which help them stay in place on the hard floor. If you're looking for a gate where you wish to increase/decrease the size often to let dogs through, this isn't the gate for you as that would be a bit cumbersome with screwing/unscrewing; however, if you want a gate that sits at a certain size and can be stepped over or easily moved, this is perfect!
