This is part of the overall design of the tension-mount gate.

This gate is perfect for keeping my cat in a room. The slats are close enough together that he can’t squeeze through and it’s tall enough that he hasn’t tried to jump over it yet. It’s very easy to open and close to walk through, and it’s attractive. One of the expander slats came with the plastic loop thing at the end broken off. Great gate. I have tried several and this one works great. The width is adjustable so I can have it stand out from the doorway or adjust it to squeeze inside the door frame. When outside of the doorway it allows the pups to see outside of their enclosed area and the sides swing open for easy access. Please note that this is not the cat gate. This is Extra Bar that is exclusively designed to extend Richell Cat Safety Gate. (sold separately) The Cat Safety Gate Extra Bar is designed for extra protection and narrows the space between each bar or your wall. Please note that Extra Bars do not physically extend the gate further than the original adjuster bolts allow. The Extra Bars are designed to allow for an opening wider than 37.5” without compromising the safety of your pets. While the distance between each bar can be adjusted, we highly recommend that the bars are adjusted to be less than 1.8” from each other to prevent cats from squeezing through the sides of the gate.

I think this is a great item. It is the second one we purchased. We have 3 American Curl cats, curious & loveable but also terrors, zoomers, wire chewers and mischief makers. Two brothers and a sister who can not have total run of the house. The gates let us keep them in the kitchen great room area and they cannot jump or climb over the gates. I would highly recommend this product. It looks good, lets the pets see you and works so much better than the makeshift gates we tried to construct. Bought the first one for entrance to kitchen from garage hallway and when I realized that this gate would fit in the hall to the bedrooms it was a done deal. Thank you for a great gates.. Barbara. This is exactly what I needed. It is very sturdy and well made. Not too high to step over, but my Pomeranian puppy can't jump over it. The wood and it's finish looks very nice in front of the stairway. I especially like the side pieces that extend out and it's easy to pick up and move aside, even though it's a bit heavy. Love this pet gate. The style, weight of it, and height are perfect. I have 2 older 5 lb dogs and a new rescue dog that is 85 lbs so I have to keep them separated. Unfortunately I am having to return the gate. One of my small dogs got their nail caught in the mesh wire... luckily with me standing close by. Really happy with this pet gate! Easily keeps my Doberman out of my bedroom. She COULD jump over it if I needed her, but, being well trained in obedience, respects that it's there because she's not supposed to be in that room (even with the constant attraction of the other dogs on the other side). It gives my 2 Min-Pins & old Pom a retreat from the Dobie constantly "mothering" them, but they can still join us or at least see out and feel like part of the family. Gave four stars only because I wish it had a small dog/cat gate in it, but got around that by leaving a passageway on one side just big enough for the little ones.
