From the photos, it looked like these came with a standing base. These must be placed in soil or sand (possibly rocks) using the bottom stake, or they won't stand up on their own. These lights are great. They have been working since I installed them without any problems. I mounted one low to the ground to just light up when we walk to the hot tub at night, and it does just that. It also lights up when my dogs walk past it which is fine. We just didn’t want to light up the whole back yard because we like to watch the stars at night from the hot tub. So mounting one closer to the ground is perfect!
