We were plesantly surprised with all of the room this desk offers. I would say it is a medium weight wood, and went together fairly easily with 1 person. My only complaint is the clips to secure the back panels were white, (these are optional to put on) which is great if that part faces the wall but in our case they dont so we had to leave them off because it looked ridiculous (they should have been brown to blend with the desk).
