The rectangular shape of this pan was inspired by the Japanese makiyakinabe pans that are used for rolled omelets called tamagoyaki. The rectangular omelet can be filled and rolled evenly and then cut into slices with an identical diameter. We are big egg eaters here and it handles frying eggs and omelets with ease. The cook is even and the clean up is easy. But my favorite use for this pan is making an entire meal in the "skillet". I am adding pictures of the meal I made last night - German Mett Sosse. First I browned the chop meat ()2 3/4 lbs) and removed the grease. Then I added the broth, onions, spices etc to make a delicious brown gravy. I covered it with the lid and let it simmer for half an hour. Not sure if you can tell from the picture but there is an opening (hole) on the lid to allow the steam out. We have made other skillet dinners (Chicken with Spinach and Shallots, Chicken Cacciatore etc) and the food comes out perfectly cooked and the fry pan easy to clean.
