The Global Knives 8.7 in. Honing Steel features a combination of industrial strength ceramic creating one of the best preventative maintenance tools possible for the edge of your knife. Ceramic is extremely hard with a slight abrasive characteristic so it sharpens as it aligns the edge.

Once upon I time I could sharpen my knifes to razor sharpness by hand. Decades later my hands are no longer steady enough to do that. I spent 10 minutes reading the instructions and then ten minutes getting two 8" knives sharper than I could do it by hand. After using it a few more times I'll be able to get a knife sharp in under a minute. Seriously, I think I'll be able to sharpen a knife as fast as a professional chef does with one of their sharpening rods. This Global rough 120 grit ceramic whetstone is used when edges are chipped or damaged. When sharpening knives, scissors, planes, engraving tools, etc, it's most important to remember to maintain the same angle (degree). This applies whether one is using a ceramic whetstone or a honing rod. Apply a small amount of water to the surface.
