These lamps fit the bill. We attached them to a wood wall headboard and they look really nice. They are a tad blinding when pointed right at your face, but just angle them and it is fine. I love that they glide up against the wall to tuck out of the way. Installation was fairly painless - my husband hardwired them, which does leave a little black hole at the bottom of the back piece, but people are too busy checking out the cool lights to even notice that!.
