The stool bases are pretty heavy and feel sturdy. The packaging was horrible but they don't look to be damaged. We haven't assembled these yet so I can't speak to the ease of that. They're definitely the exact style and color I was looking for - a polished gold finish with a black seat cushion. They will match perfectly with our newly remodeled black/white/gold kitchen. The box they came in said they were white which leads me to believe it wasn't the original box, that the chairs were repackaged in a previously used box. A very stylish design, barely hides numerous flaws in workmanship in this pricey version of a chrome (brushed, in this case) swivel and height adjustable counter stool. It rises correctly upon demand, but height is less than steady when one is seated allowing some surprise partial descent of about six inches. The leather appears and feels “real,” but of lower quality. Still, I would guess that a real animal misses it. The fit of the leather is poor, quite visibly bulging out on all sides. These bulges may ultimately show dirt, discoloration or wear unevenly. They are unacceptable, but I doubt that they are limited to the chaos I received.
