It is made of some type of synthetic plastic-like material, which at first glance appears to be coir, coconut husk. I purchased the 18x30 for a patio door opening of 3' and it is a perfect fit. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that it is much lighter in weight than I expected, compared to other outdoor mats I've previously owned, but I still think it will stay in place.
