Glass Barometer

This traditional weather station is both a work of art and an instrument at home in any fine study, library, office, or upscale restaurant. The classic weather station measures barometric pressure (liquid). The antique weather station displays an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument from Ambient Weather. The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video -- and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body.

The bezels display an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument. Note: Barometer only operates to 3,000'. Do not order if you live above 3,000'. Weather Forecasting The weather forecast or pressure tendency is based on the rate of change of barometric pressure. In general, when the pressure increases, the weather improves (sunny to partly cloudy) and when the pressure decreases, the weather degrades (cloudy to rain). The weather forecast is an estimation or generalization of weather changes in the next 24 to 48 hours, and varies from location to location. The tendency is simply a tool for projecting weather conditions and is never to be relied upon as an accurate method to predict the weather. The barometer includes a manually set needle, which is used to mark the current measurement so a change can be seen. Barometric readings should be taken daily. Remember that the rate of change of barometric pressure is important in determining weather changes. You may want to take multiple readings each day during periods of unstable weather conditions.

I bought this barometer as part of a three instrument set which included the tide clock and cabin comfort.meter. After adjusting the barometric pressure to local conditions, I checked against airport barometer settings on a daily basis to determine accuracy. The readings are dead on accurate day after day. I had wanted a comfortmeter for a while. Essentially 2 gauges in 1 with the added bonus of a declared comfort zone in the area where the needles cross. I have a number of new and vintage "ships" barometers and clocks. The brands I tend to buy don't make these. The traditional marine brands are pricey, even used. This brand is new to me. Priced new at less than used ones that I am familiar with the brand. While this is clearly not as heavy duty feeling/looking as the brands I have, it has the look and fits in. The temperature calibration was exactly what my digital gauge stated, I had to adjust the humidity. Quick ship and delivery, as described, new for less than most used ones I saw... Alot to like! Only complaint, FedEx, who has delivered to us here for 20 years, chose to leave package by our garage instead in our enclosed courtyard where a camera alerts us to packages and visitors... I was surprised at the quality versus price. I found this unit very accurate in the readings compared to various other sources. I bought this unit together with the matching barometer and liked the looks so much that I followed my original order with an order for the matching clock.
