I bought this because it was small and made of metal, not plastic. I discovered that the base is actually plastic, but is covered by the 'crumb tray'. How much of that heated plastic leaches into the dehydrating food, I don't know. I use for dehydrating nuts and seeds after sprouting, so maximum nutrition is the goal.. Mike. USA. Wed Oct 11 2023
