Door is amazing and better than competitors from OH on 10/04/2015
We purchased this door for our old house and install it using the tunnel in our garage. It worked flawlessly for 2 years until we sold the house for both the dog and cat. It was easy to install into the side of the house with the tunnel. As I recall it took way less than 1 hour and very easy. The only issues we've had is the MS-4 collar isn't overly hardy. The dog is only 25lbs and not rough at all, but we had on rubberband the pieces together and put it on the cat instead of the dog.

Please note, this door does not come with a timer so your pets can exit whenever. I'm thinking of adding a timer to the a/c adapter to basically shut the power off to the door in the overnight hours. There's nothing like a dog barking at the deer at 4AM.

Onto the competitors... We moved to a new house that had an Invisible Fence branded fence installed, so this time we went with the much more expensive Doorman door ($1000) from them because we were installing it into door that didn't have enough clearance below the window for the Hi-tech pet door and it works with their fence collar.

What a mistake! The Invisible fence door does not seal tight like the high-tech pet door. We had -30 degree F days with a couple bad winters and it would leak air into the house. The room was freezing! Also, if it's really windy, the door won't always shut properly. It gets stuck open about 1 inch blowing in freezing air. We contacted the manufacturer and they had some additional weights and magnets installed to try to fix it. It did not entirely solve the issue.

So here I am, 2 years later replacing an outside door and throwing away a $1000 pet door, so I can buy this pet door again.

Pros: easy to stall, very weather proof
Cons: Needs a timer so you can set hours they are allowed in or out. MS-4 collar isn't as hardy as I would like, but relatively cheap.

High Tech Power Door is the Greatest! from CA on 07/28/2015 – Verified Buyer
We purchased this door November 2011 and it has worked flawlessly since then. We purchased it because we are not home during the day and extreme weather conditions from 20's to 100+. This allows our Chocolate Lab to go out and enjoy the outdoors or remain in the garage at her leisure. In the evening, we leave the door from the main house to the garage open so that if she wants to go out in the middle of the night she can without us having to let her out. However, most of the time she wants to be escorted and wakes us up. We have skunks and raccoons in the neighborhood so we did not want them wandering in.

We all know that Chocolate Labs are the sweetest but not necessarily the smartest. (when did you see a Chocolate Lab Guide Dog?) But it was easy to teach Mocha to use the door by enticing her with trieats to go in and out. She learned within an hour. See for yourself how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYwZF3ygsZ0

Pros: Allows pets freedom to go in an out as they please.
Cons: If you are not handyman, you are going to have to hire someone to install the door for you. Our electrician thought it was great and easy to install.

Just as advertised from Encino, CA on 03/09/2012 – Verified Buyer
Works perfectly. Installed easily, once I got the hole cut in my wall. That was the hard part. I have a stucco exterior which is essentially like having an inch of concrete on the exterior of my house. Hint, if you have stucco, get a good masonry saw blade or be prepared to go through several regular blades. My dog figured out the door in about a day. I did remove the transmitter on the supplied collar and attached it to the dog's existing collar because I didn't see the point of two collars. The strap connectors on the transmitter are too narrow to fit a standard collar, but I attached it with two nylon zip ties to an outer layer of the dog's existing collar (so the zip ties wouldn't contact the dog's skin and irritate it. Although I have a smaller dog and the transmitter is large, she never had a problem and never gave any sign of even knowing that it is there. I 100% recommend this product.

Great product from Royal Oak, MI on 03/15/2012 – Verified Buyer
I had a problem with a raccoon coming in the house through my homemade flap type cat door. He would come in to eat the dry cat food in a dish in the utility room. Since the opening is fairly small, the raccoon would grow too large to get through, so, no problem until the next generation of young raccoons. I've always allowed our cats to come and go as they pleased, so blocking the flap at night was something I didn't like doing. The cat didn't like it either and would come into our bedroom in the middle of the night and complain.
It only took a day for our cat to get used to the automatic door. One night he sat down in front of it and the motor held the door open. After a few minutes the door closed and would not open, either with the collar or by pushing the open button. I thought for sure he had burned up the motor. I unplugged it and let it set for a few minutes. Thankfully it must have a thermal breaker in it that reset.
The collar strap is very difficult to undo, so I use a nylon puppy collar with a belt type buckle. To keep the sender unit from coming apart, I use a zip tie around it.
So far. So good.

Love my Hi Tech Pet Door from Swannanoa, NC on 03/11/2012 – Verified Buyer
The product is great. This is actually the second one I,ve purchased. The first one was for my cat and I had to put a larger one in after getting a puppy that out grew the smaller door. The door is well manufactured and makes life a lot eaiser.

I have nothing negative to say about the door, but your description of the large door is confusing. It makes it appear that it is only 8 inches wide. I noticed that a lot of people had inquired if the measurement were right and the answer was always yes. Already having a small door and looking at the manufactures web page, I went ahead and ordered the door. Some people might not if they think it is only 8 inches wide.

Keep your price lower than your competitors and you should sell alot. I know I was pleased to find a reasonable price and free shipping. I paid about the same price for the larger one as I did for the medium size a couple of years ago.

Thank you so much

Improved quality of Life for our dog and us from Pittsford NY on 08/14/2012
This door is very practical with the proper planning for installation. Those installing themselves should be comfortable with hand power tools and realize they may need to think ahead during the installation process. For instance, the steel core door I installed it in for my dog, was filled with styrofoam. This meant the best approach was to trace its location, drill the corners, and cut the panels out one side at a time, using a silicone adhesive to insert a wood frame around the opening to A) Prevent the foam from falling out, and B) provide structural integrity. Dog loves it, we love not running home on lunch to let her out, and friends and family are blown away. Of course it would not be complete without a little area outside with 6 foot privacy fence and pavers down making waste clean up easier and making her less likely to bark while we're away.

Don't know how we lived without it! from Pflugerville, TX on 04/30/2012 – Verified Buyer
This door truly changed our lives (and our dear Beagle's life) overnight. There hasn't been a single accident in the house since we got it... She seems so much happier now that she can go outside whenever she feels like it. No more whining to get out or in, and no more racing home after a long day at work only to find that she couldn't hold it that long... Installation was straightforward (we got the tunnel and installed it in the wall) and fairly easy. Although there was no mention of a need for it, we did caulk the outside to avoid any water damage to the wall... Excellent product. My parents saw it and now they want one, too!

Excellent improvement for home security from Phoenix, AZ on 01/27/2012 – Verified Buyer
So far (2 weeks) this has worked out really well. Took a little while for our dog to learn to use it (the motor noise scared her) but she's doing fine now. Plugs a big hole in my home security as the pet door is always locked now vs my old standard flap door that I had to remember to drop in a plastic insert with a latch at the top, which made the pet door useless for my pet (and still not that hard for an intruder to go through). It's also the coolest pet door around, so am having fun showing it off to my neighbors.

One minor issue - I had to buy a new door to put this on, as my previous door had a window that came down too far for this door. So that was unfortunate, but given the old pet door didn't have the same size cutout as this one, I probably would have had to go that route anyway.

Remains to be seen how the collar holds up, and I have installed it using the battery so am curious how long I get out of a charge, but so far so good.
