This worked out even better than I'd hoped. For one thing, it's a lot more solid than most flat-pack, self-assemble pieces. The desk and hutch top in particular are almost as hefty as real hardwood. And although it takes a bit of effort to put together, the machining and alignment of parts was really good (at least for my unit). It's not unusual for some of these to need a little extra help squeezing things together because a couple of the pre-drilled holes are ~1/32" off true in different directions, but not this time. One caveat: because it's nice and heavy and doesn't skimp on the fastener points, getting the hutch bolted onto the desk can be pretty tough if you're doing it solo. You'd need a hell of a strong back if you wanted to stand over the desk holding the ~40lb hutch arms wide while you gently line it up with the 8+ bolts sticking out from the desktop. I managed to make it work by putting everything together face-down on the floor and shimming the hutch up with a couple of foam mattresses, then standing it up once everything was bolted together. Fortunately, the sturdiness of construction meant I wasn't worried it would split under its own weight while I levered the whole thing upright. P.S. Beautiful desk set! Purchased the small and larger desk and hutch and all 3 came fully assembled. Everything was packaged well, no damage to any of the pieces. The boxes were extremely heavy and hard to move upstairs but aside from that it was nice to just unpack everything and move it into place. The items were back ordered but came much earlier than expected, still waiting on the 2 bookcases but those are also scheduled to come sooner than expected. Love my new office setup!. Yvette. NV. I’m sorry I can’t give this 5 stars, but the majority of the pieces have small chips on them and the teeny tiny pieces of styrofoam made an absolute mess on every single piece that we had to wipe off before we could even start thinking about assembly. It feels reasonably sturdy but one of the drawers naturally leaves a bit more space on the left and there is no way to fix it. My desk was easy to order and it arrived in a timely manner. The boxes had some damage, and the back side of the desk had a small ding in the edge, but it was in the back side so it wont be seen.
