The two compartments on the top lift up to open but sadly they do not lock in place to remain open, which could be a little inconvenient but there is a slow close on it so it does not slam closed. **TIP** there is a piece that covers the top so you can possibly sit items up there that is probably some type of mdf board and it probably blends in with the packaging and mine was thrown out, so just be mindful and ask for that piece. The Leg and Shelf are well made of sturdy material, with no issues with wobble after locking down the wheels. This crafting table is on casters that lock/unlock which makes it easy to move without scratching the new floors but also stationary when needed. The sewing machine, cutting & pinning tools will fit on the shelves which are great for storage purposes and easy accessibility. This sewing table can be easily folded to 12" W and fits into a tight spot for storage. This folding table can not only be used for cutting fabric/designing patterns or as an extra workspace for craft projects but also can be used as a computer desk in the living room or dining room. You can use this collapsible table for various purposes, and it has already made it so much easier to do things.

The veneer on the desktop came with dark, greasy fingerprints and chips missing around the edges. The instructions that were included did not match in any way, shape or form, the product in the box. The part list did not have all of the parts. The assembly pictographs were unclear, and most of them did not match the parts that I eventually used. Many of the metal fasteners stripped while I tightened them, despite using a hand screw driver and many years experience in carpentery. The copious amount of extra hardware included indicates they have a generic package of hardware that they ship, but many of the components still do not match what is in the instructions. Although the outcome was great, the process was horrendous. The desk is beautiful, great color, glossy, looks fantastic. It is sturdy, functional and I love that I can fold it down if I need the space. The shelf underneath is a great addition so yeah, absolutely love the desk but the assembly process was brutal. The “instructions” were a single piece of paper with pictures and brief descriptions. The pieces were not labeled which made it even harder. I am sure that there are people that are more builder savvy than I that wouldn’t have had as much trouble as I did, but I ultimately had to find a video online of someone building this desk and watch it 15 times before I was able to complete it. Took about 1 12 hours to fully assemble. Instructions were easy to understand and follow. Top folds down along with storage shelf to make a larger table. Fold back up and roll it away for storage.
