While an electric drill is not required, I am recommending one. I would have blisters if I didn't use one (there are, no exaggeration, hundreds of screws). Both the directions and holes predrilled were fairly easy to assemble. Due to the size it came in 3 sections but once the first was assembled it went much faster. We are pleased with armoire as far as the way it looks but the lack of the 5th star in the rating was simply due to the material in the outer pieces.
