The cabinet and tabletop are not fixed. You can move them according to personal needs and family space requirements. The desk itself looks very nice and wasn't that bad to assemble alone (took 1.5hrs). You need to have your own screwdrivers though. I would have rated this higher but Wayfair considered this 100lb item to be a small item. This meant that they wouldn't deliver it to my apartment but rather just the front door of the building and I was left to figure it out from there. Update the desk is almost fully assembled and is beautiful. However, we weren’t able to install the cabinet door yet because the handle’s screw holes do not have any threads so the screw cannot go into the handle like it should. Will have to go to a hardware store to find an appropriate replacement. Otherwise, desk was fairly easily to put together and took 2 adults who were working on different steps simultaneously approximately 2 hours. I love this desk! It is the perfect size for my small guest bedroomhome office space! Everything was well marked, though it was short on the amount of cam hole cover stickers (part D). It me about 1.5 hour to put together. The hardest part was carrying the 60 lb box upstairs (had to have help with that). The desk feels stable and the swivel part operates smoothly. I agree with others who stated the instructions could be better. The part that confused me was toward the end, putting together part 2 and part E (the square metal swivel part) with part 1. You’ll want to rotate the metal part (E) so you are able to insert the screws (part G) into part 1 (longest desktop portion). Part 2 inserts directly into the top of part 3, with E going on top of part 2, with part 1 on top of E. It took me a while to figure that out.
