Washing Machines

Measure any doorways, hallways, stairways, and areas where there may be a tight fit along the path you'll need to bring your new appliance through on delivery day. This step will ensure you don't have any trouble getting your new appliance to it's installation location.

Decide how you'll position your washer and dryer (side-by-side, stack them on top of each other, raise them with pedestals, etc.). You'll need to consider this when measuring your space. You'll also need to consider the functionality of your future machine. Front loading washers will require extra room in the front (at least 20 inches) to open the doors, while top loading models will need extra space above.

First, measure the height from the floor to the bottom of any overhead cabinets or ceilings. Next, measure the depth of the space. When measuring depth, remember you'll need at least 6 inches of space behind your washing machine for hookup and breathing room. Finish up by measuring the width. You'll need at least 1 inch of space on each side of your washer for breathing room.

Make sure you have an electrical outlet within reach of the appliance’s power cord and a water shut-off valve located on the same floor, within 4 feet of where you’ll install the appliance.
