Perfect for my 8 year old. Very sturdy. He likes to sleep, equally on the top bunk and the bottom futon. I, a Mom, put this together, with my own two hands and muscles. I would not recommend doing that, but I, apparently, had something to prove. I would recommend 2 or even 3 people putting it together to be able to hold it in place.
