It is someone different than the many industrial look beds out . The mattress shown is 14” thick and not yet expanded. I think there might be a tolerable 1” gap if you got a 12” mattress. It’s really beautiful, all wood, and what one hopes for when getting the cheaper ones, which are fine for dorms. But this thing is really solid and unbelievably heavy. I absolutely love this bed! The quality is excellent and definitely worth the price. When the box arrived, I thought it might be smaller than expected, but it exceeded my expectations in every way. My only complaint is the screws. They seem to be made of lower-quality material and can strip or get damaged easily if you’re not careful. Taking your time during assembly helps prevent any issues.. I got the walnut king size bed and I LOVE it. It’s subtle Boho and comfy. I had my two 20 year old cousins put it together and they got through it in like 20 minutes.
