This arrived well-packed in the manufacturer's box and was new, arrived ahead of schedule. The 5.5 quart size was the size I was looking for things like chili, stews, soups, etc. I needed to buy new because I moved to a home with an induction cooktop. This is an expensive investment but after all the research (Reddit was the best source) I wanted guaranteed reliability and longevity. I measured my old large pot and this one correlated close. I personally think the largest size, the 8.9 would be too big for my daily use. The Staub Cast Iron Braiser, Dutch Oven 3.5 Quart was the perfect size for 2 to 3 people. Serving size says 2-4 and I think that will depend on how big of an apatite your family has. The Geraldine color is amazingly beautiful, so beautiful I think I will buy every piece of Staub it comes in. Wayfair packed this item for shipment very well, unlike some others who slap a printing label on the original box and ship with no protection for the long journey from warehouse to home. I appreciate the detail in how it was packaged, and shipment of this product was fast I received it sooner than expected which was very much appreciated! This Dutch oven is such high quality I am in love with it! It cooks perfectly. I’ve used it to make stews so far and it worked like a gem. My next mission is to try and make artisan bread in it. The flat surface of the 4 quart Braiser is ideal for multiple portions while its mid-height, straight sides contain splatter and hold additional ingredients. Convenient for one pan meals, braising, frying, sautéing, and baking.

Beef stew was my first recipe in my new braiser. I made one-half of a recipe which called for 2 lbs of beef, with reduced amounts of vegetables. The braiser was about one-half full and resulted in five cups of stew. The pan heated rapidly on a ceramic stovetop. I did have a little trouble regulating temperature down to simmer from medium high heat, but I think I just need more practice. The beef turned out very tender, and the veggies cooked to perfection. I do think the domed stainless steel lid is a little lightweight, but it performed well in keeping moisture in. In two hours cooking time, I never needed to add water.
