Updated review: I received a replacement set which arrived very well packaged and in excellent condition and included the instructions which the original did not have. After reading the instructions I realized that the original set was in fact functional, the lights have a very discreet on/off button that I didn’t notice before it’s well hidden. The button is on the bottom where the stake goes in. For the hassle I’m giving it three stars but the lights do work very well and customer service came through like they always do. Absolute disaster with packaging. This is what it looked like as soon as I opened the box. There was nothing inside the big box to keep the lights from moving around. Put the lights outside in the sun for over 6 hours but they did not turn on at all at night. None out of a set of 6. This lantern is a perfect size for the bottom of my staircase. It is made of aluminum and is very well made. It is so easy to assemble. The latern gives off a nice bright light once it is outside. It is very attractive and stands about waist high. I like the fact that it nice looking and does a great job of lighting up the path to the stairs. I have not yet had installed, but my initial thoughts are well made and high end. I was a bit surprised based upon the description stating “lights” that this is only one light (thus I subtracted one star). The light itself measures 2 feet in height and is downward lighting. I must not have read the description thoroughly as I believed this to be a solar powered light, but in actuality is hard wired.
