Stained glass is handcrafted using the same technique that was developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the early 1900s. Glass types and colors are designed using metallic salts during manufacturing. Each piece of real glass is hand-cut and copper foil is wrapped around each piece. The glass pieces are then welded by hand to create one-of-a-kind designs. As part of the finishing process, oil is added to the outside of the design to protect the metal from erosion. The beauty of stained glass is its versatility when illuminated by light. UPDATE..... Wayfair made good on the problem that I had with my floor lamp and sent me a replacement lamp pole/base. I truly love this lamp so much and it goes so well with my decor that a refund was not an option for me because I wanted another one or the replacement part. I am back to being one very happier customer. Oh my gosh, I have to edit my 5 star review to a now a 2 star. I have only owned it for less than a month and I went to move it today from my living room and into my dining room. As soon as I picked it up by the column with two hands, the base broke completely off of the column. It's like the once assembled you cannot lift it as the top 3/4 of the column is heavier than the base causing it to separate. I am devastated as I just love this lamp. The lamp is pretty overall, but the pigments stained glass is a far cry from the lamps you would find made 20-30 years ago. The pigments and coloring is very opaque, and the appearance is comparatively dull and non-uniform to that of a more traditional fixture.
