Black Clay, La Chamba Cookware, is well-known and used throughout Colombia in restaurants and homes for preparing and serving traditional dishes. Its origins can be traced back at least 700 years to vases and pitchers found in pre-Columbian archaeological sites. It is still made in the traditional manner, by families in a small village on the banks of the Magdalena River in Central Colombia. Each piece is hand-made using local area clays, then hand burnished with a stone. The pieces are then fired in the village, giving them the distinctive black color and elegant look.

Q: How do you care for cast iron pots after cooking? A: Clean and dry your Dutch oven pot after you've finished cooking. Then while the pan is still warm, lightly grease the inside with cooking oil. Q: Is the Dutch oven preseasoned? A: The Dutch ovens have been pre-seasoned with vegetable oil before transportation. However, after long-distance transportation, the pre-seasoning may be different from the beginning. Therefore, it is recommended to simply pre-season it yourself after taking it home.

Love it but I didn't realize it was so large and would like to return it and get a smaller size..... is it possible? I believe a 12" diameter not 12 quart is what I was looking to buy.. Shelley. CA. Mon Mar 16 2026

Originally from North Africa, a Tagine is the name of a dish as well as the conical pot in which it is cooked. Our version of the pot comes from Colombia and it is a beautiful Black Clay La Chamba Version. The Tagine can be used on a stovetop, both gas or electric, an open fire as traditionally used, and it can be placed in the oven. Completely natural and safe, contains no toxins or lead and the porous nature of the clay allows the slow evaporation of steam and produce food that is healthier, tastier, and moist using less fat and liquids. Will last many years with proper use and care (each piece comes with a product information sheet outlining the Uses and Care for the product). It is still made in the traditional black clay manner, by families in a small village on the banks of the Magdalena River in Central Colombia. The tagine is handcrafted from natural and safe red clay on a potter's wheel, utilizing the milk firing technique, and decorated with engobes for an aesthetic finish. It comes complete with a lid. A tagine is a distinctive type of cookware originating from Morocco, renowned for its unique lid shape. The conical design of the lid facilitates the condensation of steam on its walls, which then drips back onto the dish. This cooking method ensures that the dish is simmered in its own juices, enhancing the ingredients' aroma, tenderness, and flavor. Engobe decoration is a manual technique applied to clay products, adding beauty and individuality to each piece. This clay cookware is non-toxic, 100% safe, and promotes healthy cooking. It does not react with food, preserving the ingredients' natural flavors, minerals, and vitamins. It is crucial to avoid sudden temperature changes, as they may cause the cookware to crack. This cookware is suitable for use in all types of ovens and tandoors only. It should not be used on an open fire. Additionally, do not wash clay tableware in the dishwasher or use abrasive cleaners.

The covered casserole is perfect for slow cooking soups, stews, and casseroles. The flat bottom shape is well suited for gas or electric ranges, and perfect for placing in an oven for finishing stews or rice dishes. Since clay is a natural and porous material, it does not react with the food and causes a slow evaporation of steam from the pores. The moist enclosed interior results in food that is healthier and tastier as it requires less fat and liquids. The beautiful black finish makes for a great presentation for family style service.

It's a very nice pot. Don't expect it to be perfect because it's handmade and has its character.. Stella. Sacramento, CA. Sun Apr 20 2025
