I like putting his favorite books and toys on the shelves, and I can plug in one of his night lights into the port which makes up for the light bar not working. The frame itself feels sturdy once put together. It looks like a mix of materials rather than pure solid wood, which is fine for the price and still holds up nicely. The only real drawback is the headboard height. It’s a bit low, so any mattress taller than about 12 inches will mostly hide it. If you prefer a visible headboard, stick with a lower-profile mattress or plan to add pillows for a layered look. We’ve actually purchased this bed frame twice this year! We first bought the queen size for ourselves and were very happy with it. A couple of months later, we decided to upgrade to a king-size bed, so we gave the queen frame to our son and purchased the exact same bed frame again in king size. We love the quality. It’s made from solid wood, feels sturdy and well-made. It works with our new 16-inch-high mattress and adjustable base, although the headboard does look a little short with such a tall mattress and base. We are pretty happy with the platform bed. Very protected in the box. The instructions were only pics, which was easy to understand.
