My 15 year-old yellow lab, Bella, passed away at the beginning of December. She was a fighter until the end. She beat cancer, one hit and run, and a false dx by a vet that would have had us put her down years earlier. The day she passed we saw a blue and green hummingbird linger by us a few feet from where she lay. It lingered ever so and then flittered away. These hummingbirds are a representation of what we considere to be her spirit saying “hello, I’m okay” that day. This Provence Wind Chime is tuned to the lovely scale from Erik Satie's Gnossienne, written in 1890. An eccentric French composer, Satie, and his music had a significant influence on fellow impressionists Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Many of the great impressionist painters of the 19th-century artists such as Renoir, Zanne, and Matisse created some of their most celebrated works in Provence, the region in southern France known for delighting the senses. It was here that Van Gogh produced his famous still lifes with sunflowers in 1888-1889. The extraordinary landscapes in Provence, infused with the scent of lavender and rosemary, and its delicious cuisine leave a lasting impression as will their Provence Wind Chime.
