We love the final product - the desk itself is worth 5 stars in it's appearance, durability, and quality of construction. The process we took to figure out what we were buying and how to assemble, however, was less than ideal. Here are our observations: PROS: * High quality, beautiful desk, we've received lots of compliments after only using it for 1 week! * Well packaged (see photo of shipping container) - took a few pliers and muscles to bend each tab and get the cover off. No pieces were damaged in shipping! * every piece is uniquely numbered in the order you assemble them * assembly is fairly simple (see note on the instructions below) - it's primarily tapping in the plastic part of the screw in the picture, screwing the screw into that plastic part, and then using little metal 'receiving' plugs to tighten around the screw heads when putting pieces together. CONS/NEUTRAL: * Sticker placement was awful. Slapped on front and center to most visible locations (rather than on the unseen, back, or underside of a piece). The stickers came off well (whew! seemed more plastic-y than paper) but some left a sticky residue that required additional cleaning. * The description says 'reversible', there are 2 images that show the black L on the left side (when looking from the back) and I chatted with Wayfair before purchasing and they 'confirmed' that assembly was reversible and the black 'L' part could go on either side. IT IS NOT REVERSIBLE. See the picture of the gray board I'm holding. This is the reason it is not reversible. The holes only go one way - you cannot assemble it any other way. We did, however, choose to still put the gray part on the opposite side (not pictured) - we just have the shelves facing out and put a few small succulents on them to make it look intentional. * The directions left MUCH to be desired. Usually just the number of the board, how many screws needed, and roughly where it went. Took a bit more brain power than normal to figure out how it was rotated, what screws went into which holes, etc. But not impossible. Assembly is fairly simple with an electric screw driver, rubber mallet, and manual screw driver. A few times order seemed like it could have been better - awkward angles to screw boards together, etc that could've likely be put together differently. * Assembly instructions had details about how to USE the lock - but not how to install it. Didn't take much effort to figure out - but some ingenuity. There is a silver 'L' piece (see picture) that comes w/ the lock but is never mentioned in the instructions (but critical to the lock having something to latch on to). * Our lock was put together incorrectly - when 'locked' the knob showed 'green/open' and when it was 'open' it showed 'red/locked'. This was fixed by loosening the screw on the back of the lock arm and rotating it to the other side. * Kit also includes a metal plate with 4 holes (see photo) that IS included in the inventory of the manual - but never used in assembly. No clue where or how it would be used. Also included 2 metal bars that I think are meant to be hammered into any spot to show the brand - but didn't use those. That picture also shows the leftover pieces - a few extra screws are included - thank you! * Wayfair details for this item says the surface is 'solid wood'. It is not. See the image of the hole on the top - it is (very dense) particle board with laminate surfaces. * Manual says we should have received 2 cord management covers (nice, silver metal caps) - but we only received one (it is in a small white box - easily disguised w/ all of the white styrofoam and sheeting used to protect the boards - but we triple checked and never found a 2nd box). Granted the hole is on the second shelf and not easily visible - but would be nice to have both. Contacted customer support and they weren't able to just order that piece, so they gave us a % refund. * The drawer and cabinet door are soft-close (great!) but the drawer, especially, is hard to open - and all you get is the knob of the lock. We had someone install drawer pulls to remedy this issue. Overall, we received a % back from customer support for our troubles, which was greatly appreciated.
