This is a quality made cat scratcher, which my cat only uses as a perch. I discovered that she does not use scratching posts (she uses the area rugs for her scratching needs). But I need to mention that the base shouldve been made larger, as it almost toppled over the first time my small cat jumped up on the perch, and it spooked her. You could maybe secure it to a wall for stability, although it doesnt come with any hardware to do that with. Or put a heavy object in the middle of the base to make it more secure. My cat has since learned to jump on the perch from the bed, which is a little bit higher than the perch. Bottom line is, unless you can make it more stable, I wouldnt recommend this scratcher if your cat is large and a zealous scratcher, or older and has trouble jumping up (thus, the danger of pulling it over on itself, like mine almost did). The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. I think this is a decent rooster for my chickens. I like the design but the metal is rather cheap. We haven’t been able to get it to stand straight since we put it together. The metal is easy to bend. I don’t think I would purchase this again, but it will work for now.
