This knife is a double-beveled "deba" knife (Japanese fish knife), the wide blade is great for cutting meat and fish.

Finally broke down and spent the money on great knife. For anybody who doesn't think it's worth it, it is! This knife was exactly what I wanted, and I know its extra sharp because its new, but the quality steel will hold that edge much longer, and the wide blade is a definite plus over a standard blade when chopping and scooping up stuff to toss in a pan.
