‘Salvator Mundi’ is Latin for ‘Savior of the World.’ One of the few known paintings by Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, dated to c. 1500, ‘Salvator Mundi’ depicts Jesus in Renaissance attire, making the sign of the cross with his right hand and holding a crystal orb in his left, which represents the ‘celestial sphere’ of the heavens. There are around 20 known variations of this painting by students and followers of Leonardo and remains his most copied painting. The original was thought to have been lost after the mid-17th century. Various copies have been considered as the original through historical conjecture. In 2005, a Salvator Mundi was presented and acquired at an auction for less than $10,000. It had been heavily overpainted so it looked like a copy. Before restoration, it was described as "a wreck, dark and gloomy." However, the consortium believed that this unkempt painting might actually be the long-lost original by Leonardo. During the restoration process, a stepped area of unevenness was discovered near Christ's face -- it had been shaved down with a sharp object, and leveled with a mixture of gesso, paint and glue, showing an uncertainty in the composition by the artist. Infrared photographs of the painting showed a pentimento (earlier draft -- literally 'repent') of the painting which had the blessing hand's thumb in a straight, rather than curved, position. This is crucial, as it showed the artist had a second thought about the positioning. It was deemed that this is not a copy but indeed an original, since copiers would have no doubts about the placement of Christ’s thumb or the composition. ‘Salvator Mundi’ is the only known Leonardo artwork to be continuously held in private collections and was auctioned for $450.3 million on November 15 2017 in New York to Prince Badr bin Abdullah, setting a new record for the most expensive painting ever sold at public auction. The current location of the painting is uncertain.

Mount Katahdin (USGS name) is the highest mountain in Maine. Named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians, the term means "The Greatest Mountain". We also have a 24 and 36 feet long gondola available, upon request. This boat was completely handcrafted and takes about 600-800 hours to build. We still use the traditional method of construction while integrating the highest quality of materials currently available. Strips of red cedars are joined together by hand and then encapsulated in fiberglass bonded in place with epoxy resin then coated with marine vanish. This combination of fiberglass and epoxy is very strong and the wood will be protected for generations. Important Note: Please be aware that this gondola is a SPECIAL ORDER item which means right after you have placed the order, it will take about 30-60 days for us to build and ship it to you.

"The Surveillante in Action Against the Quebec, 6 October 1779" by Auguste-Louis Rossel de Cercy captures a fierce naval engagement between the French frigate Surveillante and the British frigate Québec during the American Revolutionary War. Though fought between French and British ships off the coast of France, it was part of the wider conflict sparked by French support for the American cause. Cercy portrays the ships at the height of battle, their sails shredded and hulls splintered by cannon fire as smoke billows across the sea. The combat was so intense that both vessels were nearly destroyed; Québec ultimately exploded, while Surveillante, badly damaged, rescued many of the British survivors. Rather than glorifying triumph, the painting emphasizes the brutal cost of war and the unexpected chivalry that could follow even the bloodiest of encounters.

King Louis Artwork History Louis XIV is a Belgian wall tapestry. It is rendered in a three-dimensional, painterly style, the King Louis XIV tapestry depicts the taking of the town of Lille from the Spanish by the French forces of King Louis XIV in 1667. It is one of the Histories of the King series, which includes 14 tapestries depicting the wartime triumphs of the king. The tapestry features the design of sought after painter Charles Le Brun, who lived from 1619 to 1690, developed by master workers under the tutelage of Jean Mozin at the famed Paris workshop known as Les Gobelins between 1650 and 1690. It is a pivotal moment in the city's history and one of the Sun King's early military triumphs. Lille, located in the northwest corner of France, shifted from Flemish to Burgundian to Spanish rule along with the various marriages of royalty through the 1400's up to 1667, when it was swept up in Louis XIV's War of Devolution, cementing its character and history in the French tradition. The British colonial seals were discarded at the time of the Revolution and replacing them was designed more in harmony with the new state of affairs. Printed on antique parchment paper with a country black frame made of solid wood, it will add character to any room.
