The sides of the sink have a slight taper from top to bottom. There are many benefits to fireclay. Its glazed surface is eco-friendly requiring fewer cleansers. Really nice and solid sink. Both faces look good with shaker cabinets. There were a lot of less expensive and thinner farmhouse sink options that had a few reviews of cracking; I'm glad I went with this thicker option.
