We bought this to put above our bed. Our thought was that we could leave out the rods and make it short enough for our space. However once we opened it we realized that you have to use at least one rod which made it too low for our space. It was a bummer. I can say that the light itself was very easy to put together. The light is gorgeous. Took a star off for terrible directions- very hard to follow and the wires are not labeled which made the installation much harder than it needed to be. The mounting screws are terrible. It also did not mention this light needs a B14 bulb which is not available at big box stores and needed to be ordered.
