It is MDF..A step above cardboard. There are gaps in the pieces of the table where its joined together. Like when you see a leaf in the middle. And the base of the table keeps you from your legs going anywhere as they will be hitting the base. It looks good. But you can tell its MDF and not wood.. Had this table for a year now held up well. I needed a table slightly more narrow and shorter than average. I also liked that this table had four legs in the corner. It allows us to have 4 chairs (one on each side) as our normal set up and to be able to add a second chair on each side (to seat 6) when necessary. It is small so when sitting at the table for dinner there is enough room for all parties to have their place setting in front of them but very little room left to fit bowls or serving dishes for dinner. In my case this is a happy trade off to get the dimensions that fit my room best. - Just watch what you clean the table with.
