We are using this as a shoe cabinet. Wayfair calls it a bookshelf, but I don’t think I would ever recommend it for books — the shelves are not adjustable and are way too short for books. They are perfect for our shoes, though! Even our boots fit nicely on the taller shelves. I am giving four stars because the construction of the doors, though cute, is not very sturdy at all. If you have active pets or kids I think they’re likely to break easily. Hopefully ours hold up since it’s in an out of the way location in our home, but only time will tell. Sturdy, serviceable and easy to put together - as long as you don't follow the instructions. Maybe it's just me, but I find that when putting together shelving units such as this, it's a whole lot easier to simply attach one side piece to all of the shelves, flip it over, then attach the remaining side piece to the opposite side of the shelves. The included instructions would have you attaching the top and bottom shelves to both side pieces first, then squeeze in the middle shelf. Must have been written by a sadistic drafting school drop out. I purchased the solid black unit to handle my home library over-flow. Shelves are wooden and nicely painted.
