I put this mattress on an 18-inch bed frame, and I practically need a running start to get in bed. (For reference, I'm 5'6 and the mattress is a few inches below my hip) I personally don't mind making a little leap to get into bed. But if you have mobility challenges, you should put this mattress on a low frame. Other than that, it's quite soft; I would say closer to medium than medium firm.
