The hooks make the shelf area an uneven surface and the openings on the shelf are large so some smaller cookbooks don't sit right. I put canisters up there and positioned the hooks so that the canisters sit flat. I was concerned about the extra weight but the rack is sturdy and my daughter and I did a good job attaching it to the wall. Overall it looks goods and does the job and the price was reasonable. For the price, it's just what I wanted. It's sturdy enough for heavy pots, although a bit tricky to assemble (it takes 2!). The copper is beautiful."
