I've had the plastic coffee makers for years and have never been impressed. WHy it took me so long to buy this percolator is a mystery to me. After my latest Mr. Coffee conked out, I decided it was time for a change. I was debating investing in a new very expensive coffee maker or the old fashioned electric coffee pot. I read all the review on this pot and ordered it. [...] I had my first pot yesterday. The coffee was delicious and best of all really, really HOT. This pot does not have any bells and whistles...no green lights or red lights, no outside glass indicator to show you how full it is. I put the filters from my old maker into the little thing where you put the coffee and that works just fine. It's less of a mess to clean. It does brew very quickly, shuts itself down to warm when it's done brewing. I had an elelctric coffee pot years ago and it's true that the quality of the pot is not what it used to be, but I have no complaints. Good tasting, hot coffee - I'm a happy camper."..." Read more

I had this coffee maker before and after several years of great coffee I dropped it and broke the bottom. Tried to get by with drip coffee maker and it just wasn't the same. No drip coffee maker can beat the taste of percolated coffee. Great tasting coffee but the pot stains horribly. If you like a spotless pot and don't care about the benefits of a seasoned coffee pot use: 1 part baking soda to 4 parts water, percolate for a few minutes, wipe clean (you will be amazed how easily the stains come out)wash all parts with soap and percolate once more using only water to ensure you get rid of the baking soda and any remaining coffee residue.
