I have an extensive permitting process here in MD, as I am on a Historic Property and have additional requirements. Purchasing this kit was not only economical for all the reasons you'd expect (saved time designing and saved scrap with construction) - it also saved me going through the structural part of the permitting process. I received the design drawings from Little Cottage Co. and sent them off to the County. Easy Peasy. I got the 16x22 shed - and it is plenty big for my mini-skid and mower, lumber drying area and lots of inside space to work. As other reviewers have noted, it was a huge help to have a nailgun and scaffolding rented. It took us about two full weekends with some extra labor (so, from one to 5 people working both weekends) to assemble the building and apply the underlayment. Then it was weathered in. Later, I added a porch and applied metal roofing. That was fun and educational. This has been a great DIY project, start-to-finish. I can;t recommend the company and the kit(s) highly enough. Everything was great, from the professional delivery of the two large pallets all through the end of construction. The directions were great, and I got them sent to me ahead of time, to help me plan for when to ask for help and how many people. Every time I contacted the company they were fast, thorough,and professional with their advice, their expertise, and recommendations. You won't regret buying your own kit from Little Cottage Co. :-). The product has a good design (the interior compartments) but the quality of the wood is very poor. The wood paneling is thinner than a standard cedar wood fence panel (half that thick) - it feels like bolsa wood, it's super soft. My teen son and I took 4.5 hours to assemble - the numbering system made it straight forward enough (each piece was nicely numbered so that was really VERY helpful as there are a ton of pieces - see the diagram photo attached), none of the pieces were warped or damaged or missing, however the finished product is so light and flimsy and would not be good for in a wet climate - I am painting it with waterproof paint - I think the paint layer may be thicker than the wood when it's done! I don't know if it will last more than a couple of season - it is summer here in Los Angeles so it has not been rain tested - but I am certain rain will come through the sides as there are thin gaps. Just to give you an idea of quality my son and I could easily lift the finished product into place - the wood "framing" is like 1/2" x 1/2" "timber" - total weight was probably 30lb ! It looks pretty nice but I poor quality wood. My son said it probably needs another cover for the shed! LOL - so maybe we build a woodshed style structure with a corrugated tin roof to protect the 'shed'. One last observation - the chemical smell of the wood is crazy strong, everyone smelled it - it smelled like pine sol on steriods - I think they must spray it with some chemical to make you think it is pine - it;s weird.. This is, by FAR, the worst DIY assembly, flat pack piece of furniture I have ever purchased (and I have purchased a LOT of stuff like this over the years). Absolutely terrible quality wood that came with cracks, dings, chips, scratches and HOLES. Multiple pieces damaged but I continued on with assembly to see if there was anything that could be done to salvage it, as it was a time sensitive order. I HAD to get my outdoor things out of the garage so continued with the build despite the materials being obviously damaged. I thought maybe I could swap some parts out later and be okay. The process of assembly doesnt make any sense. The way you are told to assemble puts the cabinet (it is not a SHED in any sense of the word) in precarious positions that increase the likelihood of further damaging parts. Some of the pre-drilled holes dont line up. The screws crack the thin strips of wood when you put parts together. I say wood because it seems like wood pulp thats been sprayed with cedar scent. The material this is made from is SO SOFT it feels like it is made from low quality bass wood... that really soft craft wood you can practically carve with your fingernail. There is no way this is going to stand up to outdoor conditions for longer than a season or maybe two. I cannot stress enough how it is a waste of money and time to order this product. I am usually more gracious and try to find something positive when I review a product but I am just SO disappointed and frustrated because this wasnt cheap (not according to my budget). I requested replacement parts for those that are damaged. One back panel has 3-4 large (quarter size) holes that were apparently knotholes at one time but the knots have fallen out and left the holes. That means larger bugs or even a mouse can get into the cabinet from the back to get to the bird feed I have stored in here.
