How to Set a Rustic Table

Take your decorating cues from Mother Nature this holiday season with a woodsy tablescape.

Watch HGTV's Peyton Lambton guide you through the steps to preparing a warm and welcoming tablescape for the holidays. Then keep reading for even more tips and tricks from Wayfair's editors.

Create a Complete Look

Bring the outdoors in this holiday season with nature-inspired table decor. Evergreen branches and winter berries fill wood planters for an earthy centerpiece that sets the tone. Lend a touch of refinement to your table with scroll-edged white plates, mercury glass candle holders, and ornate glassware.

Tip!
Mix it up with colorful glassware for a fun and casual vibe. We love this pairing of green water glass with a clear wine goblet.

Pretty Place Settings

Start with a sliced wood charger, layer on a feminine white plate (to soften the look), and top with a festive green salad plate.

We love these linen napkins with a hint of scalloped green stitching on the edge. They're sweet and rustic at the same time.

Tip!
Hole punch cardstock place cards and slip real (or faux) berries and greenery into the hole. Print your guests' names onto the place card for a simple and elegant touch.

An Eye-Catching Centerpiece

A cabin-chic black-and-white table runner lays the foundation for a pair of wood planter boxes down the center of the table.

The planters are filled with small evergreen branches and winter berry sprigs. (We used real greenery, but you can use faux for a look you can repurpose year after year.) Then we filled in the planters with metallic candle holders to give this woodsy table some holiday shimmer.

Tip!
If you're worried about open flames, opt for battery-operated votive candles in the centerpiece.

The Extra Touches

It's nice to go the extra mile when hosting, especially around the holidays. We love the idea of giving guests potted paper whites or amaryllis plants that are just about to bloom.

It's a small, inexpensive gift that your guests will treasure all season long. Bonus—they'll think of your wonderful dinner party whenever they look at the flowers.

Tip!
Repurpose an old cutting board into a menu board. Spray paint the board with clear chalkboard paint and use a chalk marker for a board you can reuse.
