Easy Outdoor Projects: Simple DIY Planter Makeover
Improve the beauty of your indoor and outdoor planters.
Plants can take a dull backyard patio and turn into it into a lively outdoor space, perfect for lounging or hanging by the fire pit. Planters add a splash of decor to your patio while giving you space to display your favorite plants outdoors, even without a garden. Over time, planters can get beaten up, worn, and faded from weather. Giving them a fresh makeover can be especially difficult when there are plants still growing in them. If you love gardening, use this step-by-step tutorial for an easy DIY project makeover with this must-see hack.
Materials List:
- Heavy-duty tinfoil
- Spray paint
Cost Estimate: $10 – $20
Step 1. Wipe It Down
First, you'll want to make sure that your planter is clean. Elevate it onto a piece of scrap wood or leftover brick. Using a clean, damp cloth or rag, wipe it down to remove any debris and dirt that it has picked up from being outdoors in your backyard. Use a clean, dry cloth and wipe down the outdoor planter so that it is completely dry. It's important that it is dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 2. Wrap With Tinfoil.
After you've wiped them down, it's time to protect your plants. Find a spot in your backyard and lay down a tarp or blanket to protect your outdoor space. Take the heavy-duty tinfoil and measure out a piece long enough to wrap the entire plant. Taking the piece of tinfoil, carefully wrap the plant and pinch together the ends of the tinfoil. Tuck the bottom of the foil underneath the plant and pinch the top of the tinfoil together over the plant as well to avoid any openings in which the plant could get sprayed.d.
Now, it's time to spray paint. Make sure there is a blanket or tarp around your planters to keep your patio area clean while spray painting. Hold the spray can approximately 12 inches from the plant. Spray in smooth, even strokes. Apply two to three even coats, allowing the paint to dry completely in between coats.
Consider using oil-rubbed bronze, faux terracotta, faux concrete, metallic, copper, white, black, aged bronze, or a bold color to give that planter a refreshing makeover. It will help add eye-catching outdoor decor to your patio or backyard. This easy DIY project is perfect for changing the look of your planter as they start to wear, or whenever your style and outdoor decor changes.
If you love DIY projects, use this technique to give any outdoor planter a fresh eye-catching makeover to display on your patio area. Pair with your favorite outdoor rug and decor to create the ultimate focal point in your backyard.
