This will be great for our feral kitty. We haven't had a chance to check out how the cat likes the inside or how the heating pad works in the cold, but right now, the kitty likes being underneath the deck. The complaints about the dirt is just referencing the granules that come off of the roofing material ... be sure to assemble in a place where you can clean them up easily. Assembly was a bit challenging, for things like attaching the housing unit to the deck ... it's hard to get underneath to drive in the screws and I would recommend drilling holes through the decking first, not much room to maneuver and at this point you can't really turn it on it's side and keep things aligned. I used a short phillips screwdriver to set the screws, then turned it on its side to tighten them. Roof assembly was a bit challenging. there's no real positioning instructions so I used the aggregate on the short side pushed up to the housing part for alignment. Screwing in the roof was also a challenge. After positioning, I marked the hinge screw holes with a pencil, took off the roof pieces (did this one by one), drilled holes (btw, drill larger holes in the door strip flap attachment and other small wood pieces to keep the wood from splitting), put the roof pieces back on, and screwed them in ... not much room to maneuver here either ... I had to rest the unit on my knee to elevate it to screw in the hinges. The last challenge was putting on the roof peak piece, not really clear on the instructions. I turned it positioned it so it laid the flattest ... may not me exact center, but pretty close, then screwed it in ... on side only where the pre-drilled holes are. The roof support pieces you need to position as in the instruction diagram ... the one screw hole/screw acts as a pivot hinge to open and rest the roof part on ... not shown in the diagram. The unit is pretty big, much bigger than I anticipated. No complaints, but be prepared ... you could sublet it to college students. So far, I pleased with the purchase. A fantastic compact catio with a roof covering for adverse weather. HOWEVER, this was incredibly difficult to assemble and my TaskRabbit guy had to take it on. He stopped several times to scratch his head. Note: Be sure the hammock fasteners are enforced with say, a screw because the ones that come with it are very short and one fell out while my poor cat was in it. Luckily I had a pouf below so it broke his fall. I'd recommend a pad or something in the bottom. All that said, I love the multiple shelves and doors. My kids love getting inside it with the kitty. My indoor/outdoor cat loves this house. It was easy to put together, the built-in heater works great, and it’s the perfect size for a larger cat (mine is 14 lbs). I even placed a camera inside so I can check whether he’s in there. I did make a few small modifications—specifically shortening the legs—because he was hesitant to go inside at first. My suspicion that the height was the issue turned out to be correct; the very next day, he happily went into his house. It's very well insulated as well. This is a wonderful little heated kitty house. I liked the extra thick padded insulation and heated pad. The only downfall with this cat house is that there was only one door /escape route for cats (probably due to size and construction). The little awning and flaps are good, but we taped them up as I don't think most stray cats will want to push through the strange mini car wash rubber flaps. Top opens easily for cleaning and can be propped initially for skittish kitties that might be nervous to enter into a dark space. Overall a good value and solid construction.
