Bought this for my sphynx cat who can’t stay outside for long periods of time but I want to let him get some fresh air! Having the solid weatherproof roof helps block any sunlight and keeps him shaded. The size and everything is great because he’s a lounge cat he isn’t super active and really uses this to lay and listen to the birds and get fresh air. They are indoor cats but we wanted to give them a safe sanctuary when are not home. I put the structure together myself and it probably would have gone quicker if I had help but I took my time and the instructions were easy enough to follow. The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. Love this! Debated about the purchase for a while, but finally went for it, and my cats are in love. Its sturdy and assembly instructions are straight forward. Plenty of room for both of my large cats (about 12-14 lbs each). I added some finer screening around it to keep bugs out (just stapled it to the frame) and created a wood frame that fits inside my window so it can be secured without attaching it to the exterior of my house. I’ve been looking for one with kind of measurements and with some adjustments to the structure (for our needs and wants) this has been great. The instructions were pictures which I thought were a challenge, and a few pieces were cracked.. I used glue and packing tape for repair. But not with removing a star. I skipped the braces ( first steps so I could put it together in the house ) when my husband and I could assemble this outdoors I did end up replacing some of the upper parts with the same wire as the bottom. I purchased at tractor supply then replaced the two doors with just wire ( a good stapler is needed.) The big door at the bottom I added an extra lock so it gives me the access needed for “just in case” my cats would run in if I shake the treat jar. I got two pieces of strapping for the top to support the top by the roof and one for the center just for additional support. I am able to use power tools but I didn’t want to come up with the big design so honestly this is great! This was a replacement for one that lasted 5 years (including midwest winters)... my 2 cats love hanging out in this. Assembly takes some time and some mechanical skills... a drill is helpful for screws. I live in a city and this is on a 4th floor balcony... they love sitting/napping in this from spring to fall and chirping at birds and squirrels in a nearby tree, and watching the action in my Chicago alley... lots of good people and pet viewing from the safety of the balcony catio!. Love it! Pretty easy to assemble, just wish the pictures on the directions were much clearer. Much bigger than what I had anticipated, so had to angle it on our deck. Also had to figure out a different roof as we're not able to secure it to the building. I'll be purchasing a 2x4 to brace it against the decks wall. Our cat's are still trying to get used to it. I was hesitant about ordering a product with AI photos (seriously Wayfair??) but it was hard to find dimensions that would work with our windows as most catios or cat boxes are made for standard size windows and ours are tall but skinny. My fiance spent the weekend installing it and install was tricky because our placement wasn’t on a flat surface and he had to drill holes in concrete. The install was the only tricky part (and that’s because of our windows so he added additional wood supports). However, assembly was very quick and our cat took to it almost immediately. We also added some sticky foam along the edges to help seal it from bugs. It feels very secure, looks just like the picture, and feels durable enough for our cat. Very pleased with this!. Zinnia.
