The grid is powder-coated metal allowing for birds to slip through easily and protect them from predators. The feeder can hold 1.25 lbs. of birdseed. The tube itself is made from durable ABS plastic and features 4 different feeding stations. Many of your favorite songbirds can slip in but larger birds like doves, bluejays, and grackles will have to find another place to feed.

This is the perfect cage for the Painted Bunting birds to keep the big birds from getting inside their caged feeder. Rectangle cages will never work because the big birds learn to duck down and get inside. Because this caged feeder has square openings which the little birds can get in but the big birds cannot. If pesky ants or other crawling insects are a problem, our ant moat is a must. Simply fill the moat with water, hang above the feeder with included hooks, and the ants will not be able to reach the feeder base with its sweet nectar.

A great product for the price. No real directions for assembly- just a few pictures. It has to be done in a specific order, so I had to disassemble and reassemble several time to get all the accessories on correctly. It was not difficult, but a bit frustrating. As other reviewers have commented, the picture shows the squirrel baffle much lower than is actually recommended. There is no way to fit all the attachments above the baffle and have them work well. I put the birdbath ring and one hanger below the baffle (plan to put a hummingbird feeder on the lower hook) so it will work for my purposes.
