I wanted a place to make a peace garden for pet birds that passed the rainbow bridge. To honor them and these are perfect. So far one is planted with succulents. The other just has a pot. I had done a review previous but its gone. But inside are 3 shelves so you can have a tree planted and the lower shelf or both and the top has a more shallow depth but still great drainage. Or neither and a drain plug at the bottom. But being up high you have to ensure not leaking or losing plants. So well see what I plant in the other but I get hummingbirds up to 25th floor and they need shade, water and nectar. I also put out lint and super soft clean dog hair for nests which are a hit. I’ve had these for five years now and i’m obsessed. i e received dozens of compliments over the years. I sprayed immediately to get the rust color. I do wish I only sprayed a little so I could have enjoyed the grey a bit longer because it was gorgeous as a mix of color but it is what it is. I am OBSESSED with these! I've loved window boxes since living in Germany in the 1990s but always had a hard time finding ones to fit my deck railings. I've done the wire holder with plastic box and they just looked blah. These look amazing! I can't wait until the grass grows tall and petunias and sweet potato vines spill over. Beautiful planter and true to size and color from its product page. I have two full sized hibiscus plants in each of my planters in my front yard. I will give a warning and say maybe put bigger rocks at the bottom to try and ward off anything getting root bound and blocking the drainage holes- but thats an issue with just about any big planter.. These are neat planters in a size that is surprisingly hard to find. The bowls are wide and shallow, making them perfect for annuals, succulents, or other plants that don't need a lot of soil depth. I can also see them working well for large flats of flowers. I've even used them on a patio table filled with ice and drinks. There are two drainage hole with rubber plugs. Work well and come out easy. The plastic is thick and fairly heavy, giving them a sturdier feel than many inexpensive planters. I prefer the vertical stripe pattern over the horizontal version. The finish has some texture, although it still clearly looks like plastic. The horizontal-striped model reminds me a bit of a planter made from drain tile, while the vertical pattern looks better. One downside is that the vertical ribbing may make the planter a little more susceptible to cracking. One of the two bowls I received arrived with a vertical crack.
