This is a great lamp! I have a narrow nook that holds a custom sleeper sofa. I wanted to put this lamp to the side of the sofa, and I was planning to slide the base of the lamp under the side of the sofa - which is why I was glad that the lamp was inserted into the base off center. (I only had a few inches to work with.) Unfortunately, when the lamp arrived, I realized too late that the sofa had no space for sliding anything under it - it went all the way to the ground. So, I placed it behind the sofa, which wasn't as ideal. Eventually, I moved the lamp to another cozy spot and I love it. It turns off and on with a button at the very top of the 5'2" pole.
