These lamps are very pretty and well made - they have a good weight to them (but not heavy) so will not tip over easily considering their slim and tall design.
The shades come flat and wrapped around the styrofoam packaging of the bases, and ingeniously assemble with a thin strip of velcro at the seam. Very small brass clips connect the top and bottom circular frames to the shade. Once the frames are in place, the shade is perfectly taught - no waves or dents. The material is a nice textured linen type fabric.
The pattern itself has an interesting texture. Upclose it reminds me of the trunk of a palm tree, and even the Tower of Pisa (with all it's windows!). From a distance it just gives a nice sense of texture, like small squares, the way the light and shadows bounce off the surface.
Word of warning - these will have limited use when plugged into a switch outlet due to their touch-to-turn-on nature. Once you turn the light on, your switch can turn it off, but not back on again without touching the lamp. Although I had read this from another reviewer, I didn't think it was accurate because when I tested a different touch lamp on a switch outlet, I was able to turn it back on again. However, I realized that was because I flicked the switch off and on too quickly, which didn't allow the energy to dissipate long enough to break the energy flow to the lamp. This is a bummer since it means it also won't work with my smart switch, except to turn the lamp off once already lit.
Lastly, I will say customer service from Wayfair was great. One of the lamps had a pit in the ceramic glaze right at the very top surface of the vase - so no way to hide.
