Rather than a reading light, this is a room-filling light which casts its beams evenly over a 4 foot more or less diameter. Be prepared: there are a lot of pieces AND the directions are not clear. But it was fun to put together. IMPORTANT NOTE: you will absolutely need a stiff wire that is the length of the long pipe in order to get the wire to pass through that distance (the wire is not stiff enough and get's bunched up in the pipe as you attempt to push it through). Ian Thornton has been exploring how to bring task lights high style, and he has certainly succeeded with the Frey floor lamp, which is made of steel in a satin black finish with brushed brown accents. This is the second Brightech lamp I've purchased and both have exceeded expectations. The Montage works perfectly behind our couch. We did not have any trouble getting it to stand straight after some adjustment to the bottom attachment. I appreciate that others mentioned the shade is tan as opposed white. Fortunately the tan works in our room but if I had been expecting white like the photos I would have been disappointed. That said, the shade packaging, assembly and design is brilliant.
